As a personal note on this test, it was given out in my High School by one of my teachers "for the fun of it". The answers were never given out and despite having filled in most of the blanks within a day or two I never solved all the questions until about 10 years later when I found the sheet of questions in a pile of papers. It should be noted that, while the instructions state that all the items are well-known, that's in a certain cultural context, specifically american culture of a couple decades ago. Aside from the fact it's written in English there are other quirks to stumble on. What comes to mind quickest is '57 - H V' and one "editing" error which I have preserved. So without further ado...

Mental Flexibility Test

This test does not necessarily measure your intelligence quotient (IQ) with words and certainly not your mathematical ability. It will however, give you some guage of your mental flexibility and creativity. In the many years since this test was developed, few people have been able to solve more than half of the 48 items [now 51]on the first try. Many however, have reported getting the answers long after the test had been set aside, particularly at unexpected moments when their minds were relaxed. Take this as a personal challenge! There are no jokes or tricks. The items are all well known, like the following example:
